My Education
Academic Performance
I currently have a 3.87 GPA and received the Dean's Honour Roll three times.
I am a recipient of the Undergraduate Scholars Entrance Scholarship (USES), a full-ride scholarship that recognizes students of high academic achievement who are also involved in their communities.
Coursework
While some courses are more theoretical and abstract than others, all of my courses helped me more deeply understand computing.
Extracurriculars
I am currently the Director of Events for the SFU Computing Science Student Society (CSSS). Key successes under my watch include:
- Fall Hacks 2022: We had 50% more participants at the CSSS's annual beginner-friendly hackathon that I organized compared to past years.
- Frosh Week 2022: I served as grill chef for a barbecue and a overnight supervisor for Midnight Madness.
- We held multiple collaborative events with other student groups such as a typing competition (with the Mechanical Keyboard Club) and an ice skating night (with the Linguistics Student Union).
- I organized a mentorship program for the CSSS where first-year students were paired with senior students for advice on courses, careers, and more.
- I handled registration and payments for a dessert crawl and Ultimate Frisbee game.
- I chaired an Events Committee that organized and ran events such as Git and LaTeX workshops; Halloween trick-or-treating, gingerbread decorating, LAN parties, a programming contest, and karaoke nights.
I served as the First-Year Representative for the CSSS. For this eight-month role, I planned two student social events; assisted in the running of a hackathon and biweekly board games nights; and managed access to the past exam bank.
As a CS Peer Tutor, I helped first and second-year students with their coursework while also fostering independent inquiry and analysis skills. My ability to read and reason with others' code improved tremendously because I was doing that all the time.
I introduced new students to SFU as a HIVE Leader (hybrid orientation leader) and Wayfinding Champion (tour guide). I always answered any inquiry future students had about academics, locations, and social life at university and organized Q-and-A sessions/games for them.
Continuing my public speaking experience from high school, I joined the Burnaby Mountain Toastmasters club where I delivered prepared/impromptu speeches and helped run meetings as a club member. I am currently the Secretary of this club.
I played tenor saxophone for the SFU Jazz Band. I also sing as a tenor for the SFU Choir.
